Congratulations: Giant Panda Tian Tian Bears a Pair of Twins

On August 7, the six-year-old giant panda Tian Tian from Beijing bears a pair of cubs at CCRCGP Ya'an Bifengxia Base.  The littering times are respectively at 11:27 am and 11:37 am.  Till now, CCRCGP has 8 fetuses 10 foals born this year.
Tian Tian had estrus sign at the end of this March and mated with Xi Meng naturally on April 5 and 6.  At 6:46 of this morning, it begins to have pre-parturition behaviors.  At 8:13, water breaks.  After over 3 hours' efforts, a pair of cubs are born.  It is Tian Tian's first time to become a mother.  It tries to pick up the cubs and put them in their arms.  But they move around while making sounds and drop on the ground soon.  Through efforts for times, they calm down in their mother's arms finally.  Tian Tian licks the cubs' bodies slightly.  From this, it is easy to find that Tian Tian is a qualified mother.  After the second cub is born, the employees take out the first one and send it to Nursery Room for hand-rearing.  It is examined that the first cub is male with the weight of 146.2 g.  Each constitution parameter is normal.
Tian Tian was born on August 24, 2003 in Beijing Zoo.  Its mother is Niu Niu and father is Ying Ying.  To strengthen the genetic management of the giant panda population in captivity and improve the population quality, CCRCGP cooperated with Beijing Zoo and exchanged three pandas in October, 2004.  Tian Tian is one of the three.  According to the plan, Tian Tian will live in CCRCGP for 25 years.  And this time is Tian Tian's first time to deliver cubs.  It indicates that the giant pandas genetic exchange program has developed into a staged progress.
