Royal Zoological Society of Scotland Visits CCRCGP
On May 4, 2010, the Chairman Board of Royal Zoological Society of Scotland Mr. Donald Emslie, the Manager of Animal Feeding Department Darren, the Director of Animal Education Department Iain Valentine and Chinese advisor Mr. Li Zhaoyuan get to China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP).
The deputy director of CCRCGP Mr. Tang Chunxiang makes an introduction on the centers development in the past twenty years, the achievements in giant panda breeding and the post-disaster reconstruction to them. When he is talking about the giant pandas habits and the wild habitat at Wolong, Mr. Donald Emslie shows that Scotland is similar to Wolong. It is alpine relief with large area and small population. The forest cover is 70% and the humidity is high. The annual average temperature is about 17 degrees centigrade. The snow season in winter is long and lasts two to three months. After their visiting, Donald says that Scotland has unique environment for the giant panda to live. And he hopes that with the promotion of the two governments, the research cooperation on the giant panda can be carried out as soon as possible.
The society will talks over the cooperation details with China Wildlife Conservation Association in Beijing on May 6 and 7.
